UNITY
I
I
Congratulations
to Sr. Barbara
Tippolay AD
who recently
celebrated her
Golden Jubilee
Sr. Barbara is
from Garden
Point, Melville
Island, and was
educated there
by the Daughters
of Our Lady of the
Sacred Heart.
Called by the
grace of God to
become a Sister
and a Missionary,
Sr. Barbara joined
the Handmaids of
Our Lord.
The Handmaids
of Our Lord was
founded in Papua
New Guinea in 1918, and the order has nuns missioning
in Papua New Guinea and the northern areas of Australia.
A special Mass was held at Garden Point to mark the
occasion, and was celebrated by Bishop Charles Gauci, Fr.
Pat Mara MSC, and members of the community.
Sr. Barbara has spent many years on Melville Island serving
the community there, and it should be noted that both she
and Sr. Dorothy Fuller are the only surviving Aboriginal
Sisters in our Diocese.
