A Heartfelt Thank You for Supporting Mission Sunday 2025

On behalf of Catholic Mission and the people of the Mpika Diocese in Zambia, we extend our warmest thank you to Bishop Charles Gauci and to every member of our Diocese who supported this year’s 2025 Mission Sunday Appeal.

Throughout the month, our schools, parishes, ministries, and diocesan offices truly embodied the Northern Territory spirit of solidarity, prayer, and generosity. Your involvement has brought hope to communities far beyond our borders.

Mission Alive in Our Schools

Across Catholic Education Northern Territory schools, students enthusiastically engaged in the Socktober Mission Packs, learning more deeply about who they are supporting and why their contribution matters.

A key formation moment for many students was creating “sockballs” from recycled materials — a symbolic activity helping them understand the daily realities faced by countless young people around the world.

Schools also celebrated Mission Month with:

  • Masses and liturgies

  • Lunchtime rosaries

  • Students praying the Hail Mary for Zambia

  • Creative fundraising stalls and mission games

Popular activities included Pie the Teacher, Sponge Toss, and Knock the Cups with Sockballs — all joyful ways of encouraging students to put their hope into action.

The Wider Community in Action

The Diocesan Office staff also contributed by hosting a warm and welcoming afternoon high tea with Bishop Charles Gauci in support of the appeal.

One of the standout highlights of this year’s efforts was the inaugural Socktober Parish Soccer Tournament. Volunteers from the Diocesan Office, parishes, and school communities came together to support parish teams in a lively and uplifting tournament fundraiser.

Kicking the “sockball” added a meaningful twist to the event. It symbolised the challenges we face in life — and reminded us that through prayer, community support, and placing our trust in Jesus, we grow stronger as “missionaries of hope among all peoples.”

Thank You for Walking With Us

Once again, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your kindness, support, and collaboration with Catholic Mission. Your generosity strengthens our global Church family and brings real hope to our brothers and sisters in the Mpika Diocese.

May God bless you abundantly. ✨
