Anchored in Hope: Breakaway Youth Conference 2025 Inspires Young Hearts in Darwin

In the heart of the Year of Jubilee – Pilgrims of Hope, more than a hundred young people gathered on Saturday, 19 July at MacKillop Catholic College for the much-anticipated Breakaway Youth Conference 2025. Hosted by the Diocese of Darwin Youth Ministry Team, the one-day event was themed “Anchored in Hope”, a powerful reminder of faith’s steadfast presence amid life’s uncertainties.

The day opened with energetic live music and a heartfelt welcome from Bishop Charles Gauci, setting the tone for a spiritually enriching experience. What followed was a dynamic program packed with faith formation, fellowship, and fun. Workshops and small group discussions invited participants to reflect deeply on their personal journeys, while afternoon team relay games brought joy and community spirit to life.

A highlight of the conference was the vibrant and prayerful Breakaway Music Band, who led the celebration of the Eucharist with joyful praise and worship. As the sun set, the energy turned to reverence. In a moving session of Eucharistic Adoration, young people were invited to anchor their hopes in Jesus through personal prayer, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and one-on-one prayer ministry.

Behind the scenes, the success of the event was a testament to the generosity and dedication of young adult volunteers. From music to logistics, hospitality to facilitation, these passionate individuals offered their time, energy, and talents to ensure a welcoming, transformative space for all who attended.

The event was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Catholic Mission and Caritas Australia, who covered the costs of catering, resources, and registration, making the conference accessible to all.

The Diocese extends its deepest gratitude to the volunteers, guest speakers, parishes, and diocesan staff who contributed to this hopeful, faith-filled day. Through their support and prayers, Breakaway 2025 became more than a gathering—it became a living expression of the Church’s mission to walk with young people and remind them that, in Christ, hope always prevails.
