Dear Brothers and Sisters,
After many years of faithful service, Fr Malcolm Fyfe MSC has tendered his resignation as Vicar General of our Diocese. I want to acknowledge with sincere gratitude the commitment and generosity with which Fr Malcolm has fulfilled this role.
Fr Malcolm has served our Diocese in many capacities over many years, far beyond the time when many people would have retired for a much slower pace of life. Some of his roles have included Director of Catholic Education, Episcopal Vicar for Catholic Mission, Chancellor and Vicar General. I am grateful for his dedication to service.
I will be appointing Fr Prakash Menezes SVD as Vicar General on Sunday 19 November 2023 for a period of 5 years. I have chosen this date because I will be in Alice Springs following the ordination of Shehan Fernando as Deacon and the graduation of the Year 12 students at OLSH College. I thought it appropriate to appoint Fr Prakash into this role together with his people.
Fr Prakash will continue as Parish Priest of the Alice Springs Parish while fulfilling this role. There has been a precedent in our Diocese of a Vicar General living in Alice Springs while fulfilling this role. My predecessor, Bishop Eugene Hurley appointed Fr Jim Knight SVD as Vicar General while remaining in Alice Springs. Our Diocesan Office will be coordinated by our Chancellor, Mrs Clalia Mar. With modern-day technology and the benefit of video conferencing, we will not bring Fr Prakash up to Darwin any more than is necessary.
We wish Fr Malcolm well as he continues to serve God and God’s people as a Priest and a member of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart congregation.
Yours in Christ
