We react to heat and cold. We react to what others say and do.
We can spend life reacting. Obviously, we cannot help but react to the environment since we are made out of matter. We are also social beings and cannot help but react to others in relationships.
However, as Augustine says we are restless until we rest in God.
There is a connection deeper than any other that connects us to our creator.
Many metaphors have been used to try to express something of this profound truth.
The Lord is my rock and my foundation.
God holds me in the palm of His hands.
The Lord is my Shepherd.
Your guard neither slumbers nor sleeps.
I will never forget you…
God is Love ….
So many and many other phrases have been used to try to explain how profound and fundamental is this most central of relationships.
It is the most intimate of relationships.
(Psalm 139). You know me through and through. No one knows me more than God does. No one can love me as much.
When we get distracted and we feel heavily burdened with the challenges of life we are reminded by the One who is Love that there is more.
We do not have to get clattered.
Come to me you who are heavenly burdened and I will give you rest.
How often do we get distracted and at times lose sight of these truths for a while?
However, God is still there even when we are not attentive calling us back into intimacy and hope.
Having some regular time for reflection and prayer gives us a chance to hear His loving and reassuring call inviting us to a loving embrace, an empowering embrace.
