Charles Lwanga and his twenty-one companions were where killed for refusing to give in to sexual immorality asked of them by the Ugandan King Mwanga.
They were tortured and burnt alive.
The beautiful gift of our sexuality is sacred. So often it is trivialised in our times.
In our Christian understanding sexual activity, if it is to be genuinely Christian, needs to be:
Love giving,
Self giving
Life giving.
So often in movies, music and so many aspects of technological entertainment sex is portrayed as a commodity or just a bit of fun or self-gratification.
The proper place for healthy sexual activity requires commitment and fidelity. It is a very special way of loving that is rightfully and best expressed when two people have made a permanent and monogamous commitment.
Charles and his companions remind us not to give in to social pressure and to be true to fidelity and our faith despite the challenges.
They gave a prophetic witness for us all.
