‘The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak‘ Jesus in Matthew 26:41 voices something which we all experience.
We make resolutions about what we believe that we need to do , what we believe is right to do.
I want to eat properly.
I need to exercise more often.
I want to pray more often .
I want to spend more quality time with family etc etc.
So often we do not fully live up to this ideal.
We are now more than halfway through Lent.
In a sense we are for ever starting . In another sense we keep moving forward on the spiritual journey , the journey of life.
The most important thing is not to give up just because we are not perfect.
We will never be perfect. However, we need to keep coming back to what we know that we need to do.
It is important that we do not try to do this on our own . We need the grace of God the gifts of hope, courage , resilience, and the other gifts of the Holy Spirit.
We need to keep remembering how deeply loved we are!
Knowing that we are secure in the Holy insecurity of God’s embrace, reminds us that we are given the gift of perseverance.
Ongoing reflection in this time of Lent hopefully develops the good habit of ongoing reflection and action for the rest of the year!
