Tuesday might we celebrated the Chrism mass at the Cathedral in Darwin.
All the priests were present, so were many religious and pastoral workers and the cathedral was full of so many people of all walks of life.
All those present renewed their baptism commitments.
Those in religious life renewed their vows.
The priests and bishops renewed their commitment to serve the people of God.
The oils used in baptism, confirmation, ordination, and the sacrament of the sick were blessed. They will be used over the next 12 months.
As I looked around the cathedral I could see people from so many different national background.
They wanted to be there.
There was a spirit of faith and love.
There was real spiritual energy.
In the homily we reflected that we were Christ’s presence in the world.
A challenge was put before us to continue the mission of Jesus in the world.
He came to set the down trodden free to proclamation God ‘s year of favour.
We are called to carry that mission to all.
