Come to rest

So we have started Christmas week.

The children are now on holidays.

I noticed last week during Staff Masses that the teachers were tired and for good reason!

Christmas for us here in Australia coincides with the end of the school year and is the main holiday time for many people. It is not just teachers who are tired. Many feel the need for rest and refreshment.

Whatever our circumstances Christmas is about new hope, new life.

We are still in Advent, a time of reflection about all of our relationships. It is also a time for action.

We are invited into action by our God who is Love. It is a gentle and loving invitation.

We can tend to be Judges of ourselves and sometimes harsh judges. If we judge ourselves, we are more likely to judge others.

Our God a poor and helpless child reminds us that humility and love go together. A child has no pretences and plays no ‘games‘.

‘Come to me you are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’

Mat 11:39
