Padre Pio (1887 – 1968) was a humble capuchin friar.
He had the gifts of:
The stigmata (the replica of the wounds of Christ), bilocation, healing, prophesy and the ability to read souls.
He used to say ‘Pray hope and do not worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.’
‘prayer is the best weapon that we have; it is the key to God’s heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions, you should only speak to him with your heart.’
‘Joy, with peace, is the sister of Charity. Serve the Lord with laughter.’
Saints vary so much from one another.
They remind us that we are all called to holiness now.
When we truly recognise our poverty, then we can allow God to make us truly rich. It is a day-by-day journey of praying and trusting for the grace of perseverance, which is itself a gift, as well as a surrender and loving choice.
Both gift and choice. We can only choose to respond with his grace. We respond to being truly loved as we keep our gaze on and heart United with Jesus…
