It is lockdown and this means that I am working from home. I am certainly not running around like usual. It is a much slower pace of life.

It is a good reminder of the value of silence and inner space.

In between phone calls I have been able to catch up with a few jobs in the garden which needed doing.

As I write this, I am listening to the different array of bird calls.

“Be still and know that I am God”.

From time to time, it is good to be reminded to slow down for a while.

Inner silence and stillness grounds us and connects us with reality, the deeper realities.

The words of Jesus to Martha come to mind, “Martha, you fret and worry about so many things”.

Things of course need to be done.

However, so often, worry about things can block our hearts and minds. We can get cluttered.

In the stillness, we give God a chance so that we can hear His word in our hearts.

The prophet Elijah meets God in the stillness.

It is not that God is not with us always.

It is about us stopping and reflecting so that we can listen and encounter.

One can call it “waking up”.
