Darwin Diocese Marks Corpus Christi in Faith and Unity
Around 1,000 people gathered on Sunday evening for the Feast of Corpus Christi, joining together in faith, prayer, and witness in the heart of Darwin.
The celebration began with Mass at St Mary’s Star of the Sea Cathedral, Darwin City NT, followed by a Eucharistic Procession through the streets of the city and concluding with Benediction at the Cathedral.
Bishop Charles Gauci expressed his gratitude for the strong turnout and the spirit of reverence shown throughout the celebration.
“As Catholics, we believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. To walk with the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of our city is a humble but powerful witness to the love of Christ, who continues to nourish, unite and send us out in mission.”
Parishioners, families, young people, school communities, religious congregations, cultural communities, lay movements, and groups from across Darwin and the rural area came together in a visible expression of the unity and diversity of the Church in the Northern Territory.
Bishop Charles also thanked all who helped prepare and support the celebration, including clergy, parish teams, volunteers, marshals, musicians, altar servers, readers, schools, and all who participated.
“This was not only a procession through the streets,” Bishop Charles said. “It was also a sign of our desire to walk with Christ in our daily lives and to carry His presence into our homes, our communities, and our wider society.”
We give thanks to God for this grace-filled celebration and for all who joined in this public witness of faith
