Forty Days of Renewal: Bishop Charles Calls the Faithful to Reflect This Lent

My dear brothers and sisters,
With Ash Wednesday, we begin the forty days of Lent. These days remind us of the long journey of God’s people through the desert, of Jesus in prayer and preparation before His ministry, and of our own journey towards Easter.
Lent is a time to reflect on how we are responding to God’s love. How do we care for ourselves? Are there habits we need to change? Are we reaching out generously to others, especially our families, the elderly, and those who need healing and compassion?
It is also a time to reflect on how we treat creation. Do we simply use it, or do we celebrate and respect it as good stewards of God’s gifts?
At Easter, we will renew our baptism promises together. Lent prepares us for that moment. Through prayer, self-discipline, and acts of charity such as supporting Project Compassion, we grow in love and deepen our relationship with God and one another.
Lent is a season of renewal. It is a joyful opportunity to grow in love.
I wish you a holy and grace-filled Lent.
God bless you.
