Today, I wish to acknowledge the generous service of Mr Anthony Burton, who concludes his tenure as Chair of the Catholic Education Council of the Northern Territory as he prepares to leave the Northern Territory.
Over the last four years, Anthony has provided the Council with steady, faith-filled leadership and wise counsel during an important period in the life of Catholic education in our Diocese. He was also previous to being chair, a member of the Council. He has generously shared his time, experience and commitment to the mission of Catholic education, always keeping the wellbeing of our students, families and school communities at heart.
Among the many achievements during Anthony’s leadership has been the development of Horizons 2030 and Beyond – a shared vision for the future of Catholic Education Northern Territory. This important work reflects the voices of our communities and reaffirms our commitment to providing excellence, equity and the fullness of life for all. Anthony’s leadership has helped lay strong foundations for the future, and for that we are sincerely grateful.
On behalf of the Diocese of Darwin, I thank Anthony for his faithful service and generous dedication. I pray that God will continue to bless him and Jane and his family.
It also gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr David Gomez as the new Chair of the Catholic Education Council.
David brings considerable experience in governance, together with extensive legal and financial expertise. He has also served as Chair of a O’Loughlin Catholic College board and brings a lifelong appreciation of Catholic education, having experienced it as both a parent and now a grandparent. I know he understands the vital role our Catholic schools play in forming young people not only in knowledge, but also in faith, compassion and service.
The Catholic Education Council plays a significant role in advising me on matters of Catholic education across the Northern Territory, helping to shape the strategic direction of our schools and supporting the Church’s mission of education. I am confident that David’s leadership will build on the strong foundations established by Anthony and continue to guide Catholic education with wisdom, integrity and hope.
Please join me in thanking Anthony Burton for his outstanding service and in warmly welcoming David Gomez as he begins this important ministry of leadership.
May God continue to bless our Catholic school communities and all those who dedicate themselves to the formation of our young people.
Yours sincerely in Christ
+Charles
