“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her!” – Luke 1:45
On this special day, I give thanks for the incredible women of the Diocese of Darwin and the Northern Territory. Women and men are created equal in the image of God, and both reflect His goodness. Though history has often been shaped by patriarchal structures, our Christian faith teaches us that in Christ, we are one.
I was blessed to be raised in a family where equality was lived, not just spoken about. My mother and grandmothers were strong, faith-filled women who shaped my understanding of dignity and respect. Yet, we know that many women still face barriers to true equality. As a Church and society, we are called to keep working for justice, guided by the Holy Spirit, so that every woman is valued, respected, and given the opportunity to thrive.
Let us look to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, who is honoured above even the apostles, as a model of faith, strength, and grace. May she continue to inspire us as we build a world where women and men walk together in mutual respect and love.
Happy Women’s Day!
