Homelessness Week (5-11 August 2024)
Homelessness Week (5-11 August 2024): Shining a Light on the Crisis in the Northern Territory ✨
The Northern Territory faces an urgent homelessness crisis. On Census night 2021, 13,104 people were without a home, a staggering 12 times the national average. Even more alarming, 87% of those affected were First Nations people, and 21% were children under 12. The severity is evident, with 76% living in severely overcrowded conditions.
Every day in the NT:
320 young people seek help alone
25 requests for assistance go unmet
185 clients sleep in emergency shelters
10 new individuals reach out for support
Family and Domestic Violence are driving forces, with 53% seeking help due to these issues.
It’s time to come together, raise awareness, and drive change. Let’s work towards a future where everyone has a place to call home.
