How Can I Pray Really Well? – A Conversation with Antonia from Wurrumiyanga
Hi CathCroc, I am Antonia from Wurrumiyanga. Can you tell me—how can I pray really well?
This simple but profound question came from young Antonia, reaching out with a heart full of faith and curiosity. Her question touched us deeply, and we knew exactly who to ask—Bishop Charles Gauci.
The Bishop smiled warmly as he responded, “Antonia, what a beautiful question.”
He then shared something truly special, not just for Antonia but for all of us.
“Prayer comes from your heart,” he said. “You can say anything you want to God—and He’s there, listening.”
Whether you’re feeling happy or sad, whether you’re celebrating something good or going through something hard—God wants to hear from you. You can thank Him for your family, your friends, or the blessings in your life. You can even talk to Him about others, praying for them to feel loved and supported by God too.
There are many ways to pray.
You can pray by yourself, in quiet moments.
You can pray together with others, in community.
You can pray at Mass, surrounded by your faith family.
All of these are good and meaningful. But Bishop Charles reminded us that at its heart, prayer is about relationship—between you and God. It’s about friendship, love, and being present.
“Prayer is talking, being with, listening, and sharing. God listens to you—and you listen to God,” he said.
And that’s the beauty of it.
If you, like Antonia, have questions about God, prayer, or the beautiful world around us, we’d love to hear from you. Send us an email—we’d be so happy to journey with you.
