Is It Hard Being a Bishop? Kairee Asked Bishop Charles

Some questions help us understand not only what people do, but also why they do it. Recently, CathCroc received a thoughtful question from Kairee Pledger:

“Is it hard being a bishop?”

CathCroc was eager to take Kairee’s question to Bishop Charles Gauci, who offered an honest and heartfelt answer.

Bishop Charles shared that being a bishop can sometimes be challenging. Like the father of a large family, he is called to care for many people, listen to their joys and struggles, and make important decisions that affect the life of the Church.

“There are times when I feel sad for what people are going through,” Bishop Charles explained. “I have to rely on God’s love and help to be a good bishop.”

He also spoke about the importance of prayer. Knowing that many people pray for him gives him the wisdom and strength to keep saying “yes” to God’s call, especially when life is difficult.

While the role comes with responsibility, Bishop Charles said it is also a wonderful privilege. At the heart of his ministry is the opportunity to love and serve others, just as Jesus taught us.

“I love being a bishop because it’s about love, and it’s about loving people,” he said.

Kairee’s question reminds us that every vocation comes with both challenges and blessings. Whether we are called to be students, parents, teachers, priests, or bishops, God gives us the strength we need when we trust in Him and seek to serve others with love.

Thank you, Kairee, for asking such an insightful question. Your curiosity helps us all better understand the people who dedicate their lives to serving God and His people.
