The Catholic Diocese of Darwin warmly welcomes the Migrant Jubilee Cross as it arrives in the Northern Territory this October.
The Cross is part of a national pilgrimage led by the Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office (ACMRO), honouring the faith, gifts, resilience and contributions of migrant and refugee communities across Australia.
Crafted from recycled Australian timber and carried on a boat-shaped base, the Cross speaks powerfully of the journeys made by people seeking safety, belonging and a new beginning. The boat represents the Church as a pilgrim people, called to be a safe harbour of welcome, compassion and hope.
The Cross bears the Southern Cross constellation and contains relics associated with the Holy Family and Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. It invites us to recognise Christ in those who journey from their homelands and to celebrate the many cultures, stories and gifts that enrich our local Church.
All are invited to join the following Masses and times of veneration across Darwin and Palmerston:
