Some questions are so big that people of all ages have asked them throughout history. Recently, CathCroc received one of those timeless questions from Bismillah Faqiri from MacKillop Catholic College.

Bismillah wanted to know: “What is the real purpose of life?”

It’s a question that invites us to think deeply about who we are, why we are here, and what truly brings happiness. CathCroc took Bismillah’s question to Bishop Charles Gauci, who shared a simple yet powerful answer.

Bishop Charles explained that the purpose of life begins with understanding who God is. God is love, and in His goodness and happiness, He desired to share that love with others.

Just as we naturally want to share good things with our friends and loved ones, God created us so that we could share in His love and goodness. We are not here by accident. We are part of God’s creation, and each person has a special place within it.

According to Bishop Charles, the purpose of life is to live in relationship with God and with one another through love. God created us to receive His love, to share it with others, and ultimately to live in that love forever.

“When we are committed to loving and receiving love, that’s when we are truly happy,” Bishop Charles said.

This reminder helps us see that success, possessions, or popularity are not the deepest source of fulfilment. True happiness is found when we open our hearts to God’s love and allow that love to shape the way we treat others.

Thank you, Bismillah, for asking such a thoughtful question. Questions like yours encourage all of us to pause and reflect on what matters most in life.

Do you have a question about God, faith, or the world around us? CathCroc and Bishop Charles would love to hear from you!
