A Message from Bishop Charles on the Passing of Sr Josephine Kenny FDNSC
It is with deep gratitude and love that we remember Sr Josephine Kenny, a Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, who touched countless lives during her ministry in the Northern Territory. Many of you will remember her gentle spirit, unwavering compassion, and dedication to the wellbeing of our communities – especially at East Arm, Wurrumiyanga, and Wadeye. Her work with expectant mothers, Indigenous Health Workers, and those recovering from challenges left a legacy of care and kindness that continues to inspire.
Sr Jo’s mission was always rooted in love, often working in difficult and remote locations with resilience and humility. She cared for all, treating those suffering from illness or hardship not just with medical expertise but with a heart full of inclusion and warmth. Whether walking alongside individuals in recovery or creating places of refuge and healing, she became a trusted friend, a steady presence, and a reflection of Christ’s love to all who knew her.
Today, Sr Jo was laid to rest, surrounded by love and prayers of thanksgiving for her life. To her family, friends, and all who grieve, we offer our deep sympathy. May her memory inspire us to walk gently, act justly, and be kind. Rest in peace, Sr Jo – you will be forever remembered with love.
Yours in Christ
+Charles
