In a profound display of unity and shared mission, Darwin’s Catholic leaders convened for the 2024 Diocesan Leaders Conference under the theme “Stronger Together With Common Purpose: Hearing The Spirit’s Call To Be Human.” The event took place on Friday, July 12, 2024, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade, with Bishop Charles Gauci inviting leaders to explore the rich intersections of theology, spirituality, and psychology in human connection.
Building on the success of the 2023 conference, this year’s gathering aimed to further the collaborative spirit that has become a hallmark of the Diocese. The previous conference, themed “Becoming Stronger Together, Planning Our Pastoral Horizons,” saw representatives from Catholic Care NT, Catholic Education, St. Vincent de Paul, religious and clergy, and Diocesan Office staff come together to create the “Strategic Horizons” pastoral document, encapsulating the diverse contributions of each community within the Diocese.
In his invitation, Bishop Charles emphasised the critical importance of unity and collaboration in advancing the Diocese’s mission. This year’s conference was facilitated by Associate Professor Rev. Jamie Calder SJ, a renowned Catholic priest and psychologist. Fr. Jamie’s extensive expertise in theology, psychology, and social health provided a comprehensive framework for understanding and enhancing human connection within the shared faith context.
Reflecting on the previous year’s conference, participants were encouraged to embrace Pope Francis’ vision of ‘synodality,’ fostering dialogue and inclusivity. Lana Turvey Collins, the Facilitator, highlighted key focus areas such as Communication, Growing Relationships, Mission Presence, and Leadership Formation. Bishop Charles reiterated the necessity of Connection, Collaboration, and Co-responsibility for Mission, urging leaders to deeply listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
As the 2024 Diocesan Leaders Conference concluded, it marked a pivotal moment for the Diocese. By committing to intentional collaboration and heeding the Spirit’s call, the leaders are poised to strengthen their collective impact, making a significant difference in the lives of those they serve. Through this shared journey, the Darwin Diocese continues to embody its mission of compassionate service and ministry, united in purpose and driven by faith.
