“This week, we join Christians around Australia and the World in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Jesus prayed, ‘Father, may they be one as You and I are one.’ Disunity among Christians was never part of Jesus’ dream. He calls us to support, love, and be there for one another.
As the Catholic Church, we remain committed to the work of ecumenism—seeking understanding, healing past wounds, and finding common ground with our brothers and sisters in Christ. While we remain faithful to the Gospel and the teachings of our Church, we must also emphasise what unites us rather than what divides us.
This doesn’t mean watering down our beliefs; it means respecting each other deeply, even when we disagree. We want the world to know that Christians do love one another, and that unity in Christ is possible.
Pope Leo XIV has already shown a strong commitment to ecumenism, taking important steps to build bridges across Christian communities. Let us all pray and ask God to guide us to live and love as Jesus would want us to—as one people of faith.
God bless you all.
